you must let go of blind panic

“For even peace itself will supply more reason to worry. Not even safe circumstances will bring you confidence once your mind has been shocked–once it gets in the habit of blind panic, it can’t provide for its own safety. For it doesn’t really avoid danger, it just runs away. Yet we are exposed to greater danger with our backs turned.”

― Seneca, Moral Letters

“There are more things, Lucilius, likely to frighten us than there are to crush us; we suffer more often in imagination than in reality.”

― Seneca, Letters from a Stoic

Panic is pointless. It’s nothing but self-inflicted harm.

Yes, we are all having a rough time. Yes, it has been six months and still no potent solution for the coronavirus pandemic has arrived yet. Yes, the future still looks uncertain and dark. Yes, it’s tough, it’s scary, it’s depressing.

But panicking won’t solve our problems. It won’t make our current circumstances any better. In fact, it will only create more danger and prevent us from showing up as the best versions of ourselves. It will limit our capabilities and impair our resolve and our vision to create a better life for ourselves and our loved ones. It’ll rob us of our inner confidence and stop us from finding new opportunities and attracting greater success.

Yes, pandemic is bad… but panic is worse! Instead of letting it handicap you, start working through your fears. Meditate on things that make you anxious and fearful, and dissect them to better understand them.

Once you examine your own fears closely and gain clarity on what factors drive them, you empower yourself to see things objectively and take relevant actions to prepare yourself beforehand. Soon, as action replaces inaction, and as calm replaces anxiety and worry, the panic that has been bothering you fades away, and you start feeling better mentally and emotionally.

It’s humanly possible to overcome the panics that arise within us. And true success and greatness only come to those who conquer them, no matter what they go through.
