work-life balance
Work-life balance is a noble goal. But we also need to understand that it won’t be possible to sustain this balance all the time as we pour our genius in our work and strive to live an exceptional life.
On a day to day basis, we can choose work-life integration instead as it will serve us best in the long term. If we’re young and starting our work journey, or switching to another career or field, we need to build our skills and our work from scratch. In those times, we have to show up every day with our A-game and as we are learning, things will take more time than usual. But once the momentum is there, after certain months or years (depending on the individual and their journey), it ‘ll get easier to find the work-life balance that we have been craving for. It’s like learning to ride a bicycle. We may fall again and again and take time to learn the ins and outs of our trade, but with time, we’ll get better.
We can aim for a work-life balance in the broader perspective as we zoom out and manage our calendars or even our lives to attain it, but if we strive to achieve it in everyday life, we’ll get stressed and disappointed, as things may not work out as elegantly as we want them to. Instead, if we plan ahead and work towards work-life integration, and schedule work and life, and tasks and spaces accordingly, we’ll be in a much better place, personally and professionally.
In order to lead an extraordinary life, we need to make certain compromises and sacrifices and let go of our fear of missing out. As you become diligent about your time and your planning, even if there are days where the work-life balance is out of whack, they will be intentional and deliberate; you’ll have the clear understanding and confidence that overall in the bigger picture your work and life are going to get balanced eventually. This will help you bring both satisfaction and relief in your daily life as you work, play and rest.
