the growth cycle
“Stress + rest = growth. This equation holds true regardless of what it is that you are trying to grow.”
― Brad Stulberg and Steve Magness, Peak Performance
The key to long-term growth, whether it be in your mindset, bodyset, heartset, or spiritset, is to achieve a good balance between stress and rest. It’s not too different from the discipline of weight training. When you lift with the same group of muscles multiple times a day and you keep repeating this every day, it leads to burnout and muscle damage. However, when you take rest days and work on different muscles, the results are far better.
If you want to achieve sustainable growth, you must follow this four-part cycle:
- Isolate what you want to work on,
- Stress it,
- Let it rest and recover, and
- Repeat with a little more stress than the previous time.
This proven process will help you achieve your desired growth.
