live below your means
“To live beyond your means today is to live below them tomorrow.”
— Hans F. Sennholz
Taking a day job where you work for 35-40 hours per week and then spending everything you earn is never a good strategy. Of course, you don’t have to stop drinking the occasional latte, getting your favorite merch, or going to the movies or concerts. But you can still spend less than you earn.
Rather than spending money just for the sake of convenience, entertainment, and gratification all the time, it’s wise to direct that money towards saving and investing instead.
