hug a stranger
Are you good at hugging people? When was the last time you hugged a complete stranger, someone you met for the first time in your life?
I’m a big-time hugger, and although there are times when it may feel weird and not appropriate, I believe it’s totally worth it.
As the Minimalists put it, “Every hug is an opportunity to connect in a memorable, meaningful way because a hug removes the unconscious barriers we surround ourselves with each day. Plus, hugs are free and transferable. Pass it on.”
You’ll have a good number of opportunities this holiday season whether they be holiday parties, community meet-ups, or family gatherings to give away hugs.
Next time, you have a meaningful conversation with someone, why not say goodbye with a hug? When someone goes to shake your hand, why not hug them instead? Let go of the awkwardness and fear of judgment; the truth is everyone enjoys a warm hug.
Every hug is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution. You feel better, the other person feels better, it’s a win-win for both of you.
So, this holiday season and even afterward, don’t be shy and hug whenever and wherever you can. Think of each hug as an investment in humanity, and as your chance to spread love in this world.
