how to take charge of your mornings
The best morning routines are all about doing activities that matter to you but require an extra dose of self-motivation. These are essentially things that are neither urgent nor have an immediate payoff, but still might positively impact your life in the long run. A great example is writing a book or bonding with your kids over breakfast before you go to the office. This is how the most successful people start every day. They spend their mornings doing one of these three things: nurturing their careers, nurturing their relationships, or nurturing themselves.
So, how do you start taking charge of your mornings? Here are five steps to help you just do that:
- Start tracking your time for a week. A week has 168 hours in total, and if you want to know how to spend your time better and improve your productivity, you need to first know where all that time is going.
- Picture what your ideal morning would look like so that you know what’s your end goal.
- Figure out how to make your perfect morning routine doable based on your current situation and what your ideal morning demands. Think about what changes you can make in other areas to accommodate your new plans.
- This is the most important step: Follow through and start developing new morning habits. The key here is starting small and being patient as you go forward. It takes time to create the neural groove of a new routine, so it’s crucial that you move at your own pace and focus on introducing only one new habit at a time.
- Finally, be open to making changes as necessary. Life is unpredictable and if you want your morning routine to stick, you’ll have to be flexible and make adjustments and readjustments repeatedly.
